Life with a three-year-old and 18-month-old triplets is never easy. Add an unstable housing situation to that mix and you’ll have some idea of what Paige Broussard was facing when she applied for housing with Habitat. Unable to find an affordable place to rent, Paige was resigned to moving from one family member’s home to another while struggling to get on a more stable financial footing. The moment she heard Lafayette Habitat was accepting applications for home ownership, she jumped on it.

However, submitting her application wasn’t enough for Paige; she wanted to prove her commitment to getting a home. Several weeks after putting in her application, Paige brought in an itemized list of the accounts she’d paid off, complete with receipts. She also found a better-paying job as an office manager at an oil service company. Before Habitat, Paige says she didn’t really understand the value of saving.  Now, instead of spending most of her paycheck, a portion goes straight into savings for her kids and their college fund. But the most important thing Paige has taken away from the program is human kindness. “ I learned how nice, giving and caring people really are.  You don’t find that often.  Everyone at Habitat is always willing to help.  Everyone is so happy to be there, in the office and at the work site.  I’m so lucky to be given this chance.”

Paige looks forward to living in the McComb/Veazey neighborhood to be closer to her work, her children’s daycare, and family who can now help her out at any time. But more than anything, Paige cannot wait to celebrate her triplets’ third birthday in their first reliable and safe home.

Construction on the Broussard family’s home began in January of 2014, and the house was completed seven short months later in July. Additionally, the family received a Warrick Dunn Foundation Home for the Holiday’s Grant, which supplied full furnishing for the home as well as down payment assistance.
