Caroline Breaux first learned about the Lafayette Habitat for Humanity from a friend who is also a Habitat homeowner. After learning that the Habitat was accepting applications for homeownership, she decided to attend an informational meeting. Once Caroline knew that she was elligible to pursue a homeownership partnership with Habitat, it was an easy decision to begin the process.
Like all of our homeowners, Caroline balances work and a personal life on top of working with Habitat to achieve their homeownership dreams. She has worked as a pharmacy tech for the past seven years while raising her daughter A’miree (age 10). A’miree is driven, just like her mom, and wants to be a pediatrician, a dancer or maybe both. Whatever she decides, by the time she’s 11 she and her mom will be living in a new two bedroom house on Marne Street.
But why Marne Street? When it came time for Caroline to choose the lot where her new Habitat home would be built, she told us, “I don’t care where it is, as long as it’s next to Ms. Brenda!” The two women first met on the Habitat construction site last year, and have become fast friends as they’ve worked side-by-side to complete their sweat equity hours. The two became next-door neighbors on October 15, 2013.
