Anastasia Briscoe is a mother, a nutritional aid, and soon, a Lafayette Habitat for Humanity homeowner. When she entered the Habitat program, Anastasia and her son Brian (10) live in a one bedroom mobile home with some serious issues. The roof leaks when it rains and there is no heating or air condition. Additionally, due to the size of the unit, Anastasia and Brian share a room. “[Brian] is really looking forward to having his own room and some peace for himself,” Anastasia says. As for herself, she’s eager to move into a more stable living environment without the current health hazards she and Brian endure.
Since entering the homeownership program in November 2015, Anastasia has made great strides in her journey, already completing over 130 hours of sweat equity. Additionally, Anastasia has completed her financial literacy, home maintenance, and homeownership training courses, which are required of all partner families.
“I love learning new things about building the houses, and learning all the elements of construction,” Anastasia says, “the families that I’m getting to know are awesome and hardworking- they inspire me.” The Briscoe family celebrated their home dedication in December 2016.
