According to Wanda, the most exciting things about moving into her new home are knowing that it’s completely hers. Additionally, she can sleep comfortably, knowing that she’ll have a steady monthly payment for which she can budget. In her last residence, Wanda was subject to potential rent spikes, making her living situation unreliable. However, once she signed the mortgage paperwork for her new home, Wanda knew she wouldn’t just be a homeowner, she would be living on her terms.
Wanda is so thankful for the experiences she’s had on the Habitat work sites as she completed her 300 sweat equity hours. “It’s made me more open to other things,” said Wanda. “I want to be more generous with my time and help other people. These volunteers helped me from the goodness of their hearts, and now I want to pay it back.”
On Friday, April 26, 2013, Wanda gathered friends and family to her new home for a dedication celebration commemorating the start of a new chapter. Now, with keys in hand, Wanda can get started on a life in a home of her own.
