Since moving into their Habitat home, life has changed for the Iglus family. Prior to their move, parents Corey and Angel struggled with constantly keeping their children inside, as their neighborhood was too dangerous for outdoor activities.
At first, it was hard to believe that things were changing so much: “You mean, we get to grow up here?”, asked the kids excitedly. However, after adjusting to life in a new home and a new neighborhood, the family was able to settle into a healthier and happier life.
Similarly, for both Angel and Corey, this experience has been an unexpected blessing. “It gives you hope,” said Angel. “It’s beautiful to be a homeowner during times like these. I feel blessed and it has shown us that if you want something, and you work hard for it, you can accomplish it. No one is going to give you something. But if you put in your time and work, you can achieve it. It’s amazing to say that we helped build our home.”
After moving into the home in June 2010, Corey and Angel are now working hard to pay off their mortgage and hope to one day start their own business. “Habitat has opened up my mind and opened up doors,” concludes Angel. “With faith in action, anything is possible.”
