Bettering our neighborhoods, bettering our community and helping those who work hard toward owning a home realize their dream.
Lafayette Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in Acadiana by partnering with prospective homeowners, community volunteers and community organizations to build safe, decent houses. By building homes through the efforts of volunteers, as well as the required participation of future homebuyers, we are able to sell the homes to our future homeowners for affordable prices. We finance Habitat homes with an affordable, 15- to 30-year mortgage. This offers the wonderful opportunity of homeownership to qualified, low-to-moderate income, first-time homebuyers, who otherwise would be unable to purchase a home of their own.
Lafayette Habitat for Humanity builds 10-15 homes per year for qualified and deserving Acadiana residents. Our future homeowners are selected through a standard application process that looks at:
- An applicant’s level of need for housing
- An applicant’s ability to repay the mortgage loan
- An applicant’s willingness to become a participating partner in the program, that requires them to participate in the building of Habitat homes
Lafayette Habitat for Humanity is an equal-opportunity housing lender, and does not consider applicant race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation or sources of income when selecting future homeowners for the Homeownership Program.
