The Homeowner Services Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of the affordable homeownership program, from application through mortgage closing, and ensuring homeowners’ ongoing success through management of the affiliate’s mortgage portfolio with an emphasis on compassionate collections and a goal to improve the financial health of homeowners and the affiliate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct all aspects of the affordable homeownership program, including program policies, applications, homeownership education, mortgage closings, and long-term homeowner support
  • Serve as the main point of contact for future and current homeowners, developing supportive relationships to ensure continuing success in the program and subsequent homeowner role
  • Manage homeownership program underwriting criteria and application processes
  • Support future homeowners’ progress through orientation and providing regular reports of sweat equity, savings, and educational progress
  • Facilitate the mortgage closing process in coordination with the affiliate’s contract mortgage loan originator and pro-bono real estate attorney
  • Serve as liaison between future homeowners and construction staff on issues such as lot selection, new construction material choices, the move-in process, and home warranties
  • Serve as the staff liaison for all homeowner services committees

Requirements/Qualifications

  • At least two years of direct client interaction involving low-income households
  • Financial or homeownership counseling and mortgage lending experience highly desirable; ability to be trained in these techniques within 3 months of hire required
  • Knowledge of housing programs and community development
  • MSW, or other relevant degree preferred; BSW, BA, or BS in related discipline with three years’ experience acceptable
