HOME CONSTRUCTION
Lafayette Habitat for Humanity builds decent and affordable homes throughout Acadiana in partnership with families in need of a decent place to live. Habitat homebuyers help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.
Our Habitat for Humanity homes are modestly sized, based on the homeowner family’s needs. We use quality, locally available building materials to keep construction and maintenance sustainable and affordable.
The labor of volunteers and partner families, efficient building methods, modest house sizes, and no-profit loans make it affordable for low-income families to purchase Habitat houses.
HABITAT HOMES IN ACADIANA
Habitat homes in Acadiana are typically built using wood frame construction, Gypsum board interior walls, vinyl siding and asphalt shingle roofs. Our homes are typically built in a range from one to four-bedrooms with over 1,000 square feet of living space.
Lafayette Habitat houses traditionally are accented with small outdoor utility porches on the front and back sides of the home, driveway space for parking and modest yard spaces.
No matter where they are built, Habitat house sizes always are designed to meet the homeowner families’ needs while keeping costs as low and affordable as possible for low-income families.
Neighborhood revitalization
A holistic approach to improving the quality of life for our local communities. In partnership with existing coalitions in Lafayette’s core neighborhoods, we listen to resident needs and aspirations and work to connect, organize, and empower residents to be leaders in their communities.
